Lars Andersen, Ichetucknee Springs
Lars Andersen is a Florida naturalist and author of Paynes Prairie: A History of the Great Savannah (Pineapple Press, 2007) and North Florida Adventure: A Journey Through History (audio tape, Grinnin’ Lizard Productions, 1988). His most recent project, Paddlers Guide to the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail, was published in 2009.
Lars is also a full-time river guide for Adventure Outpost, the outfitter and guide service he has owned in High Springs for the past 16 years.
Every week, Lars leads 3 – 4 tours on over 60 waterways throughout North Florida. Tour themes include manatee tours, history, wildlife watching, x-stream explorations, island hopping, spring hopping etc.
Adventure Outpost also rents and sells kayaks, canoes and outdoor gear. Their daily unguided paddle trips on Santa Fe River range from one hour to all day excursions.

Health and Science
Research shows how the Floridan Aquifer feeds Ichetucknee and links distant lands to its springs through underground pathways. Excess nitrogen and reduced flow challenge the river’s clarity and health.

Caring for Your Spring
Caring for Ichetucknee begins with using less water and reducing fertilizer so more clean flow remains in the aquifer. Conservation and mindful land use are essential to restoring the river’s clarity and health.

History
For nearly 14,000 years, people have gathered at Ichetucknee, from Paleo-Indians and Timucua to settlers and modern visitors. Its waters have shaped settlement, industry, recreation, and protection.
